“Work Wife” Has Long Been One Of The Creepiest White-Collar Narratives

It’s almost like we’re pretending this is something different from what it really is.

I used to work with this dude at a job about eight years ago, maybe 10. Let me give you a couple of quick bullets on this guy, and you can decide who he is superficially before we get into a story:

  • Good: His brother had some type of trauma or brain injury and he flew to Colorado and got all his affairs and family monies in order for him.
  • Potentially Bad: He was (happily?) married to another woman at my company, although they had met at another company when both of them were married to other people, and everyone who had followed them from Company A to Company B deeply insinuated you know what.
  • Indifferent: He had a $10M house in an affluent subdivision and constantly told us how hard he worked, how he did 120 hours/work last week, and how all his trappings were earned.

OK, so this guy once was partying with me at a trade show. He was a little buzzed. So was I. He says to me:

“The secret to life is to find a wife to serve the cock, and a work wife to serve the calendar.”
