Woke: The Word No One Can Really Define, And Voters Care Less And Less About
There’s a beautifully ironic paradox at the center of all this.
I think the first thing you need to absolutely (a) remember and (b) understand about the word “woke” is that almost no one knows what it means, including the people who talk about it the most. My wife’s grandfather, who passed away in March, would often bemoan “woke culture” when we visited. One time I asked him to define it. He couldn’t. I did like the guy a lot, but he’s like a lot of people who bitch and moan about “woke” in that sense: it’s this huge bogeyman, yet we can’t define it. What gives?
So now what seems to be happening is two-or-three-fold. First, we’re gearing up for a horrible Presidential election that will probably be another “lesser of two evils” deal. It seems like Biden will be the left candidate (assuming he lives) and it seems like Trump will be on the right, but a few other people are vying to be the back-up if his legal stuff collapses (or, frankly, if he dies).
