What Was “The Mandate” Actually About?
It doesn’t seem to be about eggs anymore, that’s for sure.
I guess to clear this up quickly at the top of this post, there has been much, and I mean much, discussion about how Trump got a “mandate” in 2024 from the American people. In the sense that he won all the swing states we had been discussing for a year and a half, yes, he got a mandate. In reality, Democrats stayed home more than they normally would, so “the mandate” was that Dems lost to the couch. Kamala was a flawed, short-term candidate, and I think most people know that or are now writing books about it from “the inside.” There are many factors that gave us Trump, and while it can be uncomfortable to say this particular one out loud, he is 2–0 against women and 0–1 vs. a man. History will hopefully note that in the books, provided we have books and not just bots. I digress.
If you line up 100 “normies” and ask them why Trump in 2024, especially after January 6th of 2021, you’d get a dozen different answers, but I bet most would be about the economy. The mandate was supposedly about eggs. But now, as we reach May, we’ve had massive stock market drops — we’re in 1932 territory — including four drops of 1,000+ points just since “Liberation Day” (tariffs). Stock prices theoretically reflect long-term investments in a short-term way, so that’s different…
