What Is The Math On Marriage With Inflation + Lack Of Quality Jobs?

How will the grandest institution of them all seemingly be impacted?

There has been something of a moral panic over the last few years about marriage, with supposedly people doing it less, or later, and then Baby Boomers divorcing more. All seem to indicate the demise of society, right?

In reality, a lot of people that wring their hands about demographic trends are doing so because less marriages would seem to imply less people, and less people means less taxable residents, and less taxable residents and consumers means the whole concept of mid-to-late-stage capitalism can go up in smoke.

It’s essentially the same moral panic we have over fertility rates, which are obviously deeply tied to age of marriage. It’s much harder to get pregnant within a marriage if that marriage commences at 36 than if it commences at 23.

A lot of moral panics, then.

In reality, what happened to marriage seemingly is that the model it rested on…
