What Is The Collective Take On “The Sprinkle” Baby Shower These Days?
This one I’ve never understood, although I suppose if the second child is a different gender, it makes sense.
I had heard of baby “showers” for many years, including my mom showing me some pictures of hers when I was a kid. Seems like a reasonable and logical concept, given that at least a percentage chunk of getting + being pregnant is wanting your friends and family to celebrate you. When you grow up and hit this fucking infertility wall, your tenor and color on all this stuff changes a little bit, but obviously the baby shower is a long-held, cherished concept. Love it.
About five years ago, I first became aware of “The Sprinkle,” which is supposedly like, a smaller shower for a second kid. I think it stops at the second kid, although I have heard two examples of a “sprinkle” for a third kid. I’ll go out on a ledge here and say that while I’m a man and am not supposed to have views on these things, I think a “sprinkle” for a third kid is sociopathic and big-time overkill. Maybe you could justify it if your first kid was born in COVID and you didn’t get much then. But otherwise it seems like you’re very fucking needy, or your mom is, and you likely haven’t noticed this about yourself, but I would gues a lot of your friends have.
