What Happened In The Kara Welsh Case?

A gymnast at UW-Whitewater is killed. Is there a bigger context?

Kara was a gymnast at UW-Whitewater and won an individual national title on the vault last year. She was killed over Labor Day Weekend, during move-in for the fall semester. They didn’t announce a suspect until Tuesday, I.e. yesterday, and it’s a guy named Chad Richards, who is listed on the UW-Whitewater wrestling roster for 2021–2022. (Not last year, apparently.) They are both from Illinois, so they could have connected that way.

The exact nature of the relationship between the two has not been made public yet, although will obviously come out either pre-trial or trial. This video does seem to imply they were dating and this was a domestic gone wrong:
