What Are The Best-Ever NFL Conference Championship Games?
Definitely some weather themes, some 49ers-Cowboys themes, and remember when the Browns used to be good?
There are a million of these types of lists on the Internet, with this one being among the best, and I’m not really known as a NFL writer or anything. I won’t belabor all the games, but I did want to put something together in advance of this weekend’s clashes. I’m also disapponted that I just referred to these games as “clashes.” Oh well. Let’s do this thematically instead of game-by-game, shall we?
The Browns vs. Broncos arc
It’s hard for “the modern fan” (another thing I want to slap myself for writing) to remember the Browns being consistently good. They actually did make the Divisional round of the playoffs just a few years ago, with Baker Mayfield as QB, and lost semi-narrowly to the Chiefs. But they’ve mostly been a laughingstock since maybe Bill Belichick and Nick Saban were there, which was early-to-mid-1990s. About eight years before that, though, they were consistently good, and the 1986 and 1987 AFC Championship Games had them playing the Broncos. The Broncos won both, and won ’em both in heartbreaking fashion for Cleveland people.
