Many people claim to want community, or speak of “it” taking “a village,” but then, do those same people want to be the villagers?

I will just get this video link out of the way upfront in this article, because it is good, and elucidates many things I have written about myself for years, but also, if you think about human community and connection, you will be aware of many points made within here. Still, it’s not bad:

When you speak of “community,” there is actually a lot of nuance you need to use as caveats when using that word. It is weird, but it’s true. Here are some of the big ones:

  • “Community” is a suitcase word and means something different to almost everyone. For some guys, it means that periodically at a bar or a barber shop, someone talks to them about politics or sports. To some people, it means regular dinner parties with neighbors. To some people, it means 4Chan boards.
