This is where we find ourselves.

Much digital and real ink has been spilled on the rise of Trump, how we got Trump, what factors gave us Trump, etc. It becomes kind of tedious, and also, it needs to be noted that the 2016 win and the 2024 win come from entirely different places. In very short, not-well-articulated words, 2016 came because of Obama just having eight years (pendulums swing a lot, think Bush to Obama), Obama being black for those eight years, people not liking Hillary, and the media landscape of 2016 being so prone to digital anger. There are other factors — Bernie got shiv’ed, Hilary ignored “The Blue Wall,” etc. I’d also say 2016 is when you saw right-wing digital creators first get good at this shit. For example, while “grab em by the pussy” was covered a lot on mainstream media, I saw the Hilary stumbling/falling at the 9–11 memorial clip probably 100 times on YouTube and Facebook that October. By that time, I was already living in Texas, so I am sure some of that shit was being fed to me.

2024 is more complicated but also less so. In short, liberals got power after 2020 because people were exhausted by all the chaos of that summer — and I know some MAGA people who had issues with COVID, or their kids did, and they were fed up that Trump was ignoring it or turning it into a political chip or “China Flu.” In reality, if we had national…
