The saddest part about infertility is that no one really cares that much

The “1” and “0” problem, much like employment

I’ve written a metric ton about infertility in the past 16 months, including this 24-minute-read opus, so I won’t belabor much here. I’m sure some people who read my stuff think this is all a bit “woe is me” and maybe it is, so I’ll try to make these points quickly.

The “1” and “0” problem

This applies to a lot of “hot take” topics of the modern moment, but employment is probably the easiest one to conceptualize. Lots of people have hot takes on various employment markers, job reports, and the like. There’s a lot of screaming on FB and associated platforms about data, falsified data, the role of the President, tax breaks, job creators, work ethic of different generations, men sitting at home jerking off and playing video games (hopefully not at the same time), etc.

The thing is, unless you read or create analyst/data reports for a living, your relationship to the job market is essentially a “1” or “0” for millions (billions) of people:

  • 1: You have a job. Cool.
  • 0: You don’t. Oh no.

Now, it’s different for CEOs and people who make decisions about labor, yes. But that’s a small…
