The Potentially-Cautionary Tale Of Doug Benefield
Unpacking the gender norms and expectations of the “Black Swan” murder case.
There’s almost too much going on in the Benefield murder case out of South Carolina and Florida, so I will give you a video up top if you want to pursue it. It does a good job covering most of the deal here.
Many people call this “The Black Swan” case, not in the book version of it, but because the woman involved was a ballerina, so I.e. a reference to the Natalie Portman film.
Alright, so here’s basically what happened:
- Around 2015 or so, this guy Doug Benefield lost his wife to an arterial blockage. They had been married for decades and had a teenage daughter named Eva.
- Doug appeared to be a big MAGA guy after Trump rode the escalator down.
- Ashley was a woman working in the Sarasota (I believe) office of Trump, and even used to throw shirts to people at 2015–2016 rallies.
- They met, and got married within nine months.
