Unpacking the gender norms and expectations of the “Black Swan” murder case.

There’s almost too much going on in the Benefield murder case out of South Carolina and Florida, so I will give you a video up top if you want to pursue it. It does a good job covering most of the deal here.

Many people call this “The Black Swan” case, not in the book version of it, but because the woman involved was a ballerina, so I.e. a reference to the Natalie Portman film.

Alright, so here’s basically what happened:

  • Around 2015 or so, this guy Doug Benefield lost his wife to an arterial blockage. They had been married for decades and had a teenage daughter named Eva.
  • Doug appeared to be a big MAGA guy after Trump rode the escalator down.
  • Ashley was a woman working in the Sarasota (I believe) office of Trump, and even used to throw shirts to people at 2015–2016 rallies.
  • They met, and got married within nine months.
