The Peculiar Tyranny Of The Bored, Entitled White Woman
Normally I’m pretty up on different true crime cases, but I guess I let this one fall through the cracks during the heyday of “Karens” everywhere during COVID: this lady Kate Sorensen went to a Michael’s (craft store) about 40 minutes north of San Francisco in December 2020. She had a four-year-old and a one-year-old, who had perfect entitled kid names like Chloe and Finn, or something. She went on Instagram and did a video claiming that a Hispanic couple in the store was discussing her kids and wanted to kidnap them. The video is long-since deleted, but it got 5M views. She got on the local news to discuss it too.
This all landed on some poor cop’s desk, and he thought he would have to investigate a potential kidnapping and a white woman vs. Hispanics situation as racial tensions inflamed all of America. Instead, this poor cop started working the case and nothing added up in terms of parking lot surveillance or store surveillance, and we all come to find out that Kate S. was lying and made the entire thing up, and “hehe” she was a true crime fan and invented some narratives about a “white van,” and Jesus Christ, the whole thing is low-key racist and awful.
