The Joe Urias Headlines Are Funny, But Clearly We Don’t Value Teachers
Joe Urias, who I believe sometimes goes by “Flip” and sometimes goes by Daniel, was a teacher at a college prep academy in Port Saint Lucie, Florida (perhaps best known as where New York Mets spring training is). On Thanksgiving Eve of this year, he broke into a different school (not his) through an apparently open window, and that triggered a soft/silent alarm. Cops showed up, and when they did, he was apparently:
- Naked
- In possession of pot
- In possession of sex toys
- Eating microwaved Mac and cheese
When he saw the cops come in, he filed and then a cop caught up with him, and he punched said cop in the face. He’s now in a jail cell somewhere, unless he bonded out before a trial appearance.
It’s all very funny and makes for good “content:”
… but the thing is, at base, it’s horribly sad.
