“The Great Re-Sorting” Is More About Money And Adult Friendship Than Politics

Let’s shift the story just a little bit.

The Associated Press has a long story on “The Great Re-Sorting” of America, basically talking to a couple of people who moved from Los Angeles to Boise, or Florida to Denver, and then framing the whole thing mostly around Idaho (red) vs. Colorado (red, but big blue in Denver) to show how Americans are re-sorting themselves along ideological lines:

It’s an interesting story and it definitely tells a tale of what’s happening out there in the ether, complete with quotes about how some LA cop’s former station was burned during Summer 2020, so he knew it was time to flee to Idaho and hang his Trump yard sign proudly, where neighbors would fist-bump him for it.

I’d agree some people move for politics, yes. But if you look at American political turnout, especially in local elections, it’s generally trash. The real reason people are moving is:

  • Cost of living
  • Adult friendship

I write about a lot of different topics, from work to masculinity to relationships and social dynamics, I.e. modern friendship. Pleasure to be here.
