The Grandparent Trap

Why do your parents claim to want you to have kids so much?

This is a pretty diverse topic too, much like the diversity and complexity of why people have their own kids:

If you were going full top-level on why potential grandparents chide and even pressure people for offspring, I would say you have your “positive” bucket and your “questionable” bucket. On the “positive” bucket, you have:

  • Want to spread the joy of the family
  • View kids as a blessing
  • Want your child to be happy if they want children
  • Babies are cute (mostly)
  • You want to experience as much of that child’s life as you can before you start to age
  • Something about your religion/faith

In your “questionable” bucket, you have:

  • Retired/bored
  • Want to keep up with your friends and neighbors who have grands
  • You see it as a chance to do parenting again, but better
