The Giant, Pointless Circle That Is “Woke” As A Word

Are we any closer to retiring this?

There is perhaps no word of the past six-seven years that has been used as much, or captured the cultural zeitgeist as much, with literally no one being able to define it, than the word “woke.” I’ve touched on that word five or so times myself, with this maybe being the best one:

If you trace the word “woke” from some Eyrkah (sp?) Badu song to 2015 initial at-scale appearances to now, basically it went from:

  • A term telling African-Americans to stay aware and vigilant of long-held discrimination excesses.
  • A term describing latte-sipping, Tesla-driving fake liberals.
