Before we begin, let’s just say that these are the types of posts which can become incredibly self-indulgent. I want to avoid that, and I will do my best to do so. Yes, I am writing about a white guy’s “life lessons” from a fancy-looking vacation. You can choose that frame if you want. Really it’s just some broader life observations across the course of a changing world and life. Take it as you will.
My wife and I went to Matangi Private Island in Fiji via Costco Travel. It’s amazing the types of deals you can get from Costco Travel and also amazing that, at 42, I do almost everything associated with my life through Costco in some way. Am I basic? Perhaps. But this one worked out.
We were gone for about 9–10 days; we went to Los Angeles on Easter and spent some time there, including when I accidentally walked around the UCLA campus wearing an Oregon Ducks t-shirt. We flew at 11:55pm on the day after Easter, via Fiji Airways. The flight to Nadi is about 11 hours. Then we got a connector to Taveuni and a boat to the island.
