The (Basically Literal) Garbage Election
Of course the final 120 hours before Election Day would be about trash.
If you’ve been charting the 2024 election, which we began speaking about roughly six minutes after the 2020 election was called, basically it went through lots of phases, including the 2022 midterms and Roe’s overturn as major points. Once we got to 2024 itself, we had a few big moon phases, notably:
- Everyone assumed it would be Trump vs. Biden II, and no one wanted that.
- It became Trump vs. Biden II, and everyone was saying, “How are these dudes the only options?”
- The decline of Biden was readily apparent, but we clung to the narrative of “He beat him once, so he’s our best hope.”
- The June debate happened and Biden looked lost.
- The calls intensified.
- We thought for a second maybe it would be Newsom or Whitmer vs. Trump, and then Kamala strode in and got the delegates and took it.
- Still, people generally asked: “How exactly are these two the options?”
Over time, we inserted J.D. Vance and his theo-bro-dom and Tim Walz and his “healthy” masculinity into the conversation, and it’s been off to the races ever since.
