Storyline-Wise, This Must Be The Gonzaga March Madness Run. Right?

Maybe.

Honestly, I think it could be.

If you look at Gonzaga basketball year-by-year, first you probably go back to that initial run in 1998–1999 with Dan Monson as the head coach. That’s when they beat Florida in the Sweet 16 and you got both “The runner!” and “The slipper still fits!”

They lost in the next round, I believe.

Mark Few took over the next year, and has been there ever since. They’ve been to the Final 4 twice, and both of those times they made the title game. They lost once to UNC — fun fact about my own life is that game was played on the night I came back to Texas from Tucson to allow my ex-wife the chance to move out of the apartment we shared — and once to Baylor. The UNC game was a bit close. The Baylor game was really not.

He’s been in the Round of 32 (one win) 18 times, and the Elite Eight four times. Pretty impressive resume. He’s also the third-fastest coach in NCAA history to 500 wins, behind I believe Adolph Rupp and Jerry “The Shark” Tarkanian.
