So Once Again, We Arrive At Letterboard Season

Are there any lessons from the back-to-school period?

During back-to-school 2021, I was in this men’s workout group around Fort Worth. Sometimes I would go work out at Walsh Ranch, which is in west Fort Worth and where everyone that lives there seemingly has three kids under 7, so they built an elementary school right within the Pleasantville-ish vibes of the place. (If they slapped a wine bar in there, it would sell like crack in the 1980s to Thursday night moms groups.) A couple of times we’d be jogging by the elementary school and between gasps from my fat arse, I’d make jokes with some of the guys around which part of the school was best for the first-day-of-school photo. We called it “Letterboard Season.” Most moms honestly don’t participate in Letterboard Season. Affluent moms have a participation rate of roughly 78%, best I can tell.

I used to chop it up with my therapist about this. His son was three at the time. I always would ask him “What will the letterboard say?”
