Should We Release The Nashville Shooter (And Others’) Manifesto?
If you’re generally unaware, there was a shooting in Nashville earlier this year that killed six people. The shooter, Audrey Hale, also died. If you’re one of those people who classifies school shootings according to some specific keyword, this one would be “Nashville” or “school” or “transgender,” as that’s apparently what Hale was. Hale had some writings, purportedly a “voluminous amount,” and the FBI has mostly kept them under wraps. Now there are lawsuits — filed separately by Tennessee Firearms Association Inc. alongside former Tennessee-area Sheriff James Hammond and the National Rifle Association and by private investigator Clara Brewer — to release the writings publicly. A decision could come today.
The obvious breakdown here would be:
- Don’t release them: It could inspire future shooters.
- Release them: It could give the public and policymakers more intel on what’s going on with these shooters.
