Resigned from TCU

Worked at TCU as one gig for the past 3–4 months. Resigned on Friday. Here’s the general background of the story, for those who care.

Long backstory made short

I didn’t move to Fort Worth until 2014. I primarily knew of TCU from the 2009 Fiesta Bowl and the 2010 Rose Bowl. When I moved here, I lived 1.7 miles down the hill from the university, next to a bar called Woodshed, where I’ve spent about $50,000 for no real reason. I started to meet some people associated with the university. I met a few staff, some alums, etc. I wouldn’t say I always loved the people I met from there, but I got to have an appreciation for it a little bit. My career has been a weird, winding mess of bullshit give or take, so since I’ve been here I had applied to TCU jobs maybe 4–5 times. I finally grabbed one last May/June. “Marketing copywriter.”

At the same time, I was talking to this company called RobotLab in Southlake, which is about 25 minutes from me — more with traffic. That guy wanted me to come in every day and sit there until 5, even though there definitely wasn’t enough work to do. I found it weird that a tech company was chasing seat time post-pandemic (in-pandemic), and I didn’t want to spend that much on gas. So, I took this TCU gig.

I took it kinda hesitantly because I could tell from the interviews that I probably wouldn’t get…
