An executive at Estée Lauder, John Demsey, posted this on Instagram recently. He got backlash and tried to claim he “didn’t read the meme before posting.” The meme is 11 total words. Then, as you’d expect, he got fired. He was making $10.5M/year in his role. Now, I do think there’s a discussion here about “someone can be an asshole in their personal life, and hold shitty views, and still be good at their job.” That happens all the time. But why would you throw away comp and a career for a fucking racist Sesame Street meme? Culture wars have gone too far.
