Not Fun To Discuss, But True: The Notion Of Husband As Sperm Donor And Not Much More

Last year, my wife and I did IVF. It failed. The night before it started, I got rip-roaring drunk, probably out of social anxiety or depression or fear or something similar:

The next day, my right knee was all messed up (contained within the story linked above) and I had coffee with this kid who runs a small insurance business. He has two kids. He was quick to tell me how easy it was. Guys love to discuss virility. This kid is pretty nice, but he’s insanely overly-religious, which sometimes makes me worry about a person. I am faithful and I think about bigger issues, but I also don’t think every problem in life can be solved by quoting Scripture to someone. That’s part of why I don’t love AA, which is another post I plan to do soon-ish.

Anyway, I’m having coffee with this kid and we’re talking about IVF and fertility and inferility and whatever (and God) and he says to me, “Well, it’s natural that women are kinda hard-wired to…
