Mutually-Assured Destruction: The Parable Of The Stay-At-Home Mom/Girlfriend

Where are we with all this stuff?

This video is a year old or so, but I watched it for the first time today:

Pretty decent. Lot of stuff going on there. To briefly explain:

  1. There is a belief that feminism went too far on the “girl boss” narrative, which led to despair around how awful white-collar work can be and also despair around getting a later jump on trying to be a mom, which makes it harder.
  2. Well, the TikTok-proposed alternative to “girl boss” is to simply be a kept woman, i.e. a stay-at-home mom, “trad-wife,” or girlfriend.
  3. It needs to be noted in this discussion that a “stay-at-home girlfriend” has far fewer protections legally than a “stay-at-home mom,” because the mom is married to the guy.
  4. In both cases, there’s a trope / potential reality that the man can “trade in” for a younger model, which does happen more than we realize. (It happened with Bezos, Musk, and many other notable rich guys.)…

I write about a lot of different topics, from work to masculinity to relationships and social dynamics, I.e. modern friendship. Pleasure to be here.
