More Proof No One Really Cared About “The Great Resignation”
There is something you must understand about business journalism, and at its core, it’s this: most of it is written by people who don’t understand business at all, and definitely don’t see it with an executive-level mindset. It’s written by people who need to make deadlines and hit a number of stories per week to get paid and not get fired themselves, so a lot of falls into crappy trend articles that don’t teach anyone anything. We were really big on “The Great Resignation” in 2021 and parts of 2022, with supposedly everyone worried about quit rates and turnover. In reality, most executives barely knew this was a thing. The articles, which mostly quoted Gartner HR practice people, claimed everyone was worried sick about turnover. It was a giant lie.
Bezos is a golden god to many modern executives, and you always should remember that he loves turnover and regularly encourages people to aim for high turnover when he talks to reporters or gives speeches. I guess he…
