LinkedIn Kinda Sucks And Is Pointless, No?
I got piped off of LinkedIn in June 2021. I think I got tossed in jail for getting into a fight with Madison Butler about the true impacts of corporate diversity programs. They wouldn’t let me back. Then I got an ill-fated job at TCU, which eventually I had to resign from because it was generally pointless and didn’t need to exist, and while at TCU my boss went away for one week — wait, no, two weeks, but it was supposed to be one week — and her boss was supervising me. He spoke six total words to me in two weeks, and those were: “Maybe do some LinkedIn Learning classes?” So, I tried to get back on LinkedIn with my TCU address. Lo and behold, it worked! I got back and instantly remembered how awful it all is. Let’s roll.
Are there LinkedIn benefits? Sure. Do people make connections on there, convert them, close deals? Of course. This is the much-balleyhooed “social selling.” Does this happen as much as thought leaders want us to believe it happens? No. There are some people and companies who “get” all this stuff, of course.
