Just Hit My Longest Stretch Of Sobriety Since 2011
I won’t belabor this post because stuff like this can get self-indulgent, but I will lay out a few things for you on this Friday.
I stopped during Lent in 2020, but I ended up missing the full Lent by about six days I think. If you count weekends, I think I was sober for about 39–40 days. I’m now at 41 straight. In 2011, I had a particularly bad night at an event in NYC called “The Cheesemonger Invitational.” My then-friend Edwin and I were bartending at this event, and the host of it allowed us to drink as we bartended. I think I had drank before the event, too. I got shitfaced and the host had two huge security guards cart me out. There were probably 350 people at this event, so it wasn’t like, ya know, the greatest night of my life or anything. I think they may have been dragging my half-alive carcass out in a “perp walk” fashion. It was bad. The next day I decided to stop and lasted about six to eight months. I believe I actually got a Panera and watched Horrible Bosses that day.
Alright, so this period right now is the longest in 12 years. I believe I can go past my six to eight months from that cycle. I’ve been to AA in my existence, but I haven’t been this time out. Let me give you a quick series of bullet point pops for anyone trying to do this:
