Job Growth Seems Like An Increasing Race To The Automated/Commission Bottom

Who’s creating the good jobs of the future, eh?

At the end of a given year, we get all sorts of hypotheses and speculation and supposed “data” on what industries are producing “the jobs of the future.” About 100–250 of these things come out every December. There is a new one recently from WorkLife, which is usually pretty reputable:

Apparently, this is rooted in data and insight from Indeed, Glassdoor, and ZipRecruiter. That’s not too shabby in terms of scale as far as job boards or job-seeker preferences go.

If you look at the top 10 jobs they list, the troubling ones in their bucket include:

  • Virtual office assistants
  • SDRs
  • Remote data entry specialist
  • In-store product demonstrators
  • AI content writers

That’s half the list. The problem with this half is simple: none of these jobs pay any money. They are semi-important roles…
