Did IVF egg retrieval yesterday and got 13 eggs out of it, which is somewhere in a good zone between 12 and 16, with most published research saying 20+ eggs can mean a bunch are lower-grade or degraded or something. I have no idea what will happen with the 13 we got — I remain hopeful, however! — but I do have a couple of thoughts I will put down here for anyone else going through this, now or in the future:
- As a dude, you probably take a lot about sex and getting women pregnant for granted, honestly — and most dudes are like that, and it just kinda happens. If you can do that without this process, you’re blessed.
- It is increasingly uncomfortable to jerk off in 1970s beige recliners.
- Last one on jerking off: a lot of times, they give you the sample cup, and it has a small to average sized mouth. Ejaculated semen does not flow in an orderly, straight line most of the time. So, logistically, especially if you’re on your back, you kinda need to stick your shaft into the opening but in such a way that the specimen is now flowing downwards back onto you. It’s weird.
- Be supportive and show up for your partner in this whole thing. IVF is relatively fast and somewhat painful in the shots period, but emotionally there’s a ton of stuff and questioning on both sides (I am only speaking about heterosexual IVF). I cannot tell you how many…
