“Is This About My Wife?”

Another nice adulthood fade to black for the ledger.

So, here’s another one for a Friday afternoon on Medium.

Used to be friends with this couple via my church. Nice people. Guy was smart, woman seemed functional and cool. My wife and I got along with them.

Well, in this church small group, only two couples hadn’t had kids — us and them. They got pregnant about a month after they got married, which I’m fairly certain my wife is still resentful of me about. Instead of coming to us and saying, “Hey, I know this might be hard,” they just sent everyone a picture of baby shoes on a cliff in Marfa, Texas. I kinda thought that was weird, but whatever.

So, as this kid is growing inside the female of that dynamic, I figure to myself, hey, this husband is relatively intellectual and most guys are not, and maybe I can kick some tires with him on what impending fatherhood feels like, as I may never experience that. He gave me a few nibbles here and there, and honestly it’s more than most guys are capable of doing, so I did appreciate it.
