Is The Old Playbook Of Work Really Even Changing That Much?

It feels like we’re sometimes overstating things.

Martine Haas is a professor at Wharton, and that quote is from within this article about how hybrid work will reign supreme in 2023. I am personally not sure about that; hybrid is a good model with its own myriad of problems.

But, I see it as a convenient middle path for companies that are terrified of remote (middle managers lose control and fears of productivity falling) and terrified of forcing people to come in every day (might create turnover, which creates all sorts of other issues with the remaining people). So, sure, let’s go with it. Hybrid for the win!

The problem with this quote is the very beginning, because it sets an absolute, like, OH, this is what companies care about now. You need this quote to begin with the word “some,” because it’s not all companies. It’s not even a majority of companies. It might not even be 30% of companies. It’s some companies.
