How We Treat Cops Is The Canary In The Coal Mine

Look at two recent examples.

First we are going to look at the case of Pedro Parra out of the Houston exurbs. He set fire to his house with his three sons inside of it. Good dude. A cop broke in and managed to save the kids. Rightfully, he is lauded as a hero locally.

The dad is charged on three counts of attempted murder, with a $2.25M bond.

Then we have Elio Diaz, in Florida. He was a sheriff’s deputy. He came across a homeless person, Andrew Mostyn, driving on an expired license. He actually worked with Mostyn to try and get him an appointment to get a new license, and showed him the steps related to insurance. Mostyn, for some ungodly reason (mental health break, probably), shot and killed Diaz, then took off in a white pickup to a fast food restaurant. Other cops cornered him there, and he essentially pulled the “suicide by cop” card.
