How Many Men Do We Think Know Anything At All About Ovulation?
I got a beer with my friend last night — nice start to my “clean August,” losing it on Day 1 — and, as is wanton to happen in my life, we were discussing fertility and whatnot. He has two kids. I have zero, blog about it consistently, my sperm sucks, etc. Welcome to TerrorDome, baby! It just so happens that sitting behind us is a woman, with now three daughters, who I happen to know did IVF four times to get those daughters. Her husband is a dipshit. Thankfully, he wasn’t there.
So I’m telling my friend about this lady’s husband and his little crew of friends. One time, I was jogging with one of them, a fertility rockstar (four kids, no problem), and he basically told me that a woman can get pregnant at any time of any month. He was 35 or so when he told me this. Around then, I started wondering how much men understand ovulation and the female body in general — so, about two weeks later, I go to this Christmas party in Dallas and I just decide to sneak this into a variety of conversations. Most men at this party, it seemed, believed that if you do it outside of your partner’s cycle, you can still get pregnant.
Man, high school sex ed is not doing well.
