Goddamn, Life Is A Small World
Insofar as this will be even remotely interesting to you, let me explain this photo here for you. This was taken in July 2016, so coming up on nine years ago this summer. If you look in the back right, the taller dude, round face, blue shirt is me (or, well, the July 2016 version of me). If you look near the middle and see the woman in the yellow, that is my ex-wife. I was at this event with her as part of some broader “young professional” thing, even tho I was 35 when this photo was taken. About eight months after this photo, me (in the blue) and her (in the yellow) would no longer be together. But, a-ha!
Look at the front row, furthest to the right. That is who I am married to presently. At the time this photo was taken, I had no idea who she was, had never spoken to her, and had never met her. I may have briefly met her on this evening. If so, I don’t recall any of that conversation. About 15 months after this photo, we would start dating. Maybe 17 months.
Half the people in this photo I don’t know or couldn’t even identify by name. I know a few others and have some funny stories about some, including one or two mentioned herewith.
I only recently became aware this photo even existed, hence the short post.
This was taken in Fort Worth, Texas, and while that’s got a “big city, small town” vibe — it’s the 12th-largest city in America but you often see the same people at different events — it still feels kinda “Wow, life is smaller than you think” with a side of “Butterfly Effect” to boot.
Years and years of my adulthood is reflected in this photo, and I literally didn’t know the half of it.
