“God Needs Me In Aspen.”

A fun look at humanity as the year ends.

Here is the basic set-up: I have a friend and him and his wife have four kids. The wife’s parents live in Missouri. The husband’s (my friend) parents live in Texas, near him. About 17 months ago, the wife’s dad (so my friend’s father-in-law) has a heart attack up in Missouri. He is still alive, and is alive to this day (good), but in the aftermath of the heart attack, his daughter wants to get up and see him. This requires either a flight or a drive, and her husband (my buddy) is going to go with her. So, they need a place for their four kids in the aftermath of this life event.

My buddy calls his mom and says, “Hey, can you watch the kids?”

She replies: “Well, I am supposed to go to Aspen with some girlfriends this weekend. Let me pray on it.”

She calls him back 15 minutes later and says: “Well, I prayed on it, and God needs me in Aspen.”

My buddy got his sister and her husband to take the kids for three days as they headed to Missouri.

Laugh/cry at that, or form your own theories about the people involved. It’s a hit at parties and bar-side discussions, so I thought maybe Medium would enjoy it.

Onward.

I write about a lot of different topics, from work to masculinity to relationships and social dynamics, I.e. modern friendship. Pleasure to be here.
