Forcing Christianity Onto People Doesn’t Make Them Better Humans
I used to go to church with this dude named Ryan. He was an OK guy and coached a bunch of youth sports and seemed affable. He was “active” in the church, but if you ever looked over at him on a Sunday in the pews, he was usually reading email or something similar. He had a very standard Texas existence — appearance of money without anyone understanding where the money came from (so your assumption is “dad”), trad-wife at home posting on Instagram twice/day, three kids, a few shots of private planes in Boulder, etc. I know a lot of this variation of guy. I could care less about his politics. In 2016, he was posting online a bunch of MAGA-type stuff, but he seemed like a nice guy and was coaching youth sports and all, so who cares what ballot box he checks?
Well, over time he got into the more far-leaning side, posting stuff about “The libs are whacking off genitals in schools!” I see that stuff and laugh. Most schools can barely organize enough pencils for the classrooms, much less the coordination of at-scale, covert medical projects. He stopped coming to my church (possibly went to another one). Postings leaned into the libs and all that. I mostly ignored him and thought about him once every 13 months between 2019…
