Look, the GOP ain’t dead by any stretch. It’s still a two-party system (sigh) and stuff changes on the regular, often as the wind blows. The “right” controls the court system, by and large. DeSantis is a star for now, albeit one with no personality. (He could become the next Scott Walker. We don’t know yet.) But it looks like we’re at least beginning the final chapter of Trump’s public life. Oz got wrecked by a guy who can’t speak because of a health issue; Trump, of course, blamed Melania for that. (Huh?) Herschel is in a runoff that he might lose. Vance won, so I guess that’s something. Trump is now terrified of DeSantis. Kari Lake might lose in Arizona. That other crazy dude in Michigan lost by 12–13% points. Glenn Youngkin in Virginia, who might be the best Republican to emerge in the last five years short of DeSantis, regularly doesn’t discuss Trump. Big Cheeto still has some control, some power, and some access to the big capital guys of the right — but it’s waning. Boebert might be losing too.
