Does Disgust Drive Society?

I spent part of my post-Christmas morning watching this video:

It’s pretty good, and vaguely interesting, although the narrator is a little bit intellectually sanctimonious in parts, which can be tedious. It does call out some books and stuff to read, though, so if you’re looking to a 2023 driven by consumption of print resources, you’ll get some recommendations here.

It does definitely feel like we live in a time almost completely driven by ideology and identity:

Where do ideology and identity ultimately emerge from? Disgust at something else. The whole argument about “the other side coming for my way of life,” which is pretty stupid as an argument:
