Derek Daigneault And The Career Criminal Problem

The arrest video is interesting, if nothing else.

This guy Derek Daigneault, who apparently had nine previous convictions for various things (mostly robbery and drugs) but was free at the time, killed his cousin, a woman named Mandy who had let him stay there for a month, and then drove her body to Waco, Texas and burned her. He left her dog, Titan, with her burning body, and because Titan would not leave the scene, cops were able to use Titan’s microchip to figure out who the deceased was, and that led them to this Derek guy. Score one for the loyalty of dogs.

Derek had fled up to Wichita, Kansas and he was eventually apprehended inside a supermarket, where he had crawled into the bottom shelf of canned goods and was hiding. Hey, at least he’s clever, I suppose.

Derek eventually got life in prison, but with the possibility of parole after 30 years, and let’s just run down that rapsheet again:
