Derek And Nancy Johnson Case, Alabama: Something Feels Rotten Here

It’s either a mom murder-suicide, or the dad did it. Will we figure it out?

If you’re unfamiliar with this case, I’ll give you the basic rundown and then a video to watch in a second. In the above photo, only the dad is still alive. The mom and the two kids are now deceased. The official story is “murder-suicide,” via the mom, but the siblings of the mom are saying she’d never kill the kids and the husband probably did it.

Meet Derek and Nancy Johnson, who lived in Alabama, but apparently Derek had some work he was doing in Utah. They had these two kids, Mia and Jacob, and they were in the middle of about a six-month-long divorce process, where Derek alleges that Nancy had “kidnapped" the kids for 2.5 months. Mobile County (Alabama) officials say each of them had called the cops on the other multiple times. At one point, Derek was living in a trailer in the backyard, which was apparently a situation condoned by a judge in Alabama. He is the one who discovered the bodies and made the 911 call, yes.

Here is the video with the most Intel, including an interview with the husband:

There is a lot going on in this case and video. Currently, I believe this stands at murder-suicide. If you watch the video and watch Derek’s parts — and it should be noted he requested the interview from Law and Crime — he does not come off great. First, he barely makes eye contact at all. I realize it’s a Zoom camera, but still. Secondly, almost the first thing he says about his now-deceased wife (and the mother of his two children) is that she was “irrational.” He’s also wearing a Top Gun shirt, which for some reason reads as “pseudo-alpha” to me. I might be off there.

In the same video, Nancy’s brother drops a few bombs. He says that Mia (the daughter) had bruises on her, and that’s why Nancy initiated the divorce. He also says Nancy’s phone is missing, and he believes important stuff is on that phone. Those would be notable…
