Dad’s Place, A Church In Ohio, And Confusion Over What “Religion” Is

Politics, identity, and faith.

This is an interesting story. It is covered more robustly in other places, so I will kinda paint the edges for you. You would need to begin here:

This is a church in Bryan, Ohio — near Toledo. That’s in Williams County. For reference, in 2020, Williams County was 73% for Trump. Just keep that in the back of your mind.

Last year, the church began to offer temporary housing for people living on the street. The city ordered the church to stop, citing zoning and safety concerns. But the pastor, Chris Avell, refused.

I’ve long been confused by this. I realize that churches don’t want to become homeless shelters, per se, and I realize that a lot of churches are really just an excuse for affluent people to go somewhere on a Sunday and think of themselves as better people than they truly are. So, I get it. But didn’t Jesus say a lot about housing people?
