And Just Like That … I’m Bartending At B-Dubs
I wanted to work “And Just Like That” into the title of this post so that I could reference the HBO show, which is a “second act” of Sex and the City. Said show is absolutely cringe and like watching a train wreck most episodes — they basically created characters and storylines to apologize for the rampant whiteness of the first version — and yet, I cannot turn away from it. I watched every episode of the second season, usually on the day they were released. It was my own pop culture prison.
Now, speaking of “train wrecks you cannot turn away from,” I recently spent about 2.25 decades predominantly doing white-collar work. I was mostly freelance since late 2015. Honestly I would tell you: I was never that good at being freelance, and in my best economic years, I usually had 2–3 “anchor” clients whereby a boss at that client thought of me as full-time, even if I wasn’t really. In 2021, I had three full-time jobs. Made a lot of money, but also drank to excess about 67% of weekdays. I think that should tell you that white-collar maybe isn’t that hard.
