Ah, The Ol’ Middle Manager “Patience Test”
Years ago, in probably 2015, I had just been laid off from a job for the first time ever (more times eventually followed), and while I was looking for gigs, I had some hiring manager tell me I had to be on this call at 7 a.m. on a Saturday. I thought that was a joke, tried to clarify, and he said no, it wasn’t. I think the salary for this role was $52,000 or something, so ultimately I decided not to hop on the call. I was an asshole, yes. He sent me a scathing email saying he designed the calls for that time to “see who was willing to step up for it.” I deleted the email and have almost never thought of the exchange in the last nine years.
Then I saw this video today:
This brings up an oldie but a goodie that some LinkedIn Lunatics like to propose: a “Patience Test” for hiring. Basically, invite six finalists to come to an in-person interview (I don’t think this would work on Zoom, but could in a sociopathic way) at 8 a.m. Then ignore then until 4 p.m., come out, and see who’s there…
