A New Arc Of Sexual Morality

Are we slowly reaching it?

I have thought about global sexuality a lot in the last 72 hours, which feels like a weird sentence to type, but bear with me for one second here. I will try not to belabor it.

First: in what was literally a world-first law, Belgium approved labor protections for sex workers. While it is a little weird to think of a sex worker getting maternity leave, it’s also a profession (and while numbers vary, it may employ over 10M people globally). So, assuming you don’t clutch your pearls on labor rights being afforded to those who use sex as a form of income/currency, this seems like a potentially progressive step. I realize you could also see it as the Demise of society. I get it.

Second: I think we’re waking up more to the effects of porn on people, specifically men. Here’s one clip, which is admittedly two bro dogs talking about sex and porn, that speaks to maybe there’s at least some consciousness around this topic.

I think we all know that porn is not good for masculinity writ large —

I write about a lot of different topics, from work to masculinity to relationships and social dynamics, I.e. modern friendship. Pleasure to be here.
